Liverpool forward Sadio Mane has been named on the eight-man shortlist for the Premier League Player of the Month Award for January 2019.
The Senegalese international star has been in sensational form for Liverpool and his goals have been crucial to the Reds’ surge to the top of the table as they bid to win the Premier League title for the first time.
Mane scored four goals in four league games in January including a brace against Watford on Wednesday night.
The two goals against the Hornets took his Premier League goal tally to 14 for this season thus making it his most productive campaign in the top flight of English football.
The 5-0 thrashing of the Hornets on Wednesday night ensured that the Reds maintained their one-point advantage at the Premier League summit.
Sadio Mane has now scored six goals in his last six games in the league and Liverpool fans are hoping that he could continue this good goalscoring form against Everton in the Merseyside Derby on Sunday evening.
He’s joined on the list by teammate Virgil Van Dijk who also scored two goals against Watford.
The other players on the shortlist include Luke Shaw, Paul Pogba (Manchester United), Wilfried Zaha (Crystal Palace), Sean Longstaff (Newcastle United), Ashley Barnes (Burnley) and Sergio Aguero (Manchester City).
