Homesick Pedro admits missing Barcelona

Pedro Wants to return to Barcelona after holding preliminary talks with his former club

After just a season at Stamford Bridge the 28-year-old has admitted that he would like a return to Catalonia and he has been talking to the Barca president Josep Maria Bartomeu about a return to his hometown club.

“Hopefully (I can return to Barcelona) but I know it’s hard,” Pedro told beIN Sports.

“I have already spoken about it with the president when we [Barcelona] were in the [Cup] final (when Barcelona beat Sevilla 2-0 last month) and spoke to all the people who want me there.

“It’s complicated, but I’ve always said that I would like to retire at Barcelona. However, I know it’s difficult because the years go by and the club has the best players in the world, it is a very demanding club and to return is complicated. But I do not rule it out either.”

Pedro, who struggled to make an impact during his debut season in the Premier League, made 24 league starts, scoring seven goals, has three years left on the deal he signed last summer after making the £22million switch to Stamford Bridge.

Pedro, who is currently on international duty with Spain at Euro 2016, came through the youth ranks at Barcelona and won five La Liga titles and three Champions League crowns and it appears he is desperate to return to the La Liga giants.

“I had been 11 or 12 years in Barcelona, my family is from there and also many friends. The fans loved me, I felt very valued around the club, and it’s always hard to leave the club of your dreams,” he added.

“But I have explained before in the end I had to take this decision because I saw that the possibilities (of playing) were low,” he added.

Earlier this month the player admitted his debut season in England had been “strange” but he was adamant he did not regret his move to Chelsea and claimed he was looking forward to “doing something big” next season.

“It’s been a very strange year, for everyone,” he said.

“Of course I miss Barca. I had many years there, I felt very loved on the street. I’ve had the best moments of my career there and I really miss it. But I do not regret going [to Chelsea]. I’m very comfortable, it’s a great club.

“It’s been hard because a change is always tough for a player at the start. You start from scratch, in a new league, new team, new language, new culture. But my team-mates helped me a lot. We look forward to doing something big.”
