Dirk Kuyt Ask Klopp To Sign this Player For Liverpool

Former Liverpool player Dirk Kuyt wants his former club to bring in Virgil Van Dijk from Southampton, believing the defender would do a ‘great job’ at Anfield.

Van Dijk was constantly in the news during the summer transfer window, and he even submitted a transfer request to force his way out of St Mary’s.

Liverpool were believed to be closing in on a deal at the start of the summer, but the Anfield club were made to keep off from the defender when his club threatened to report them to the FA for approaching him illegally.

The Merseyside club are still expected to revive their interest in the Netherlands international in January, and Kuyt believes the defender would be a welcome addition at the club.

Speaking to Sky Sports recently, Dirk hailed his countryman as a ‘great player’, and believes he could deliver properly at Liverpool.

“[Virgil] has the right mentality and he is a great defender.” Kuyt, who spent six years at Liverpool, said.

While Jurgen Klopp’s side are understood to be preparing a January move for the central defender, there were recent speculations that Pep Guardiola is also looking to bolster his defensive options and have expressed interest in the player.

Winning six of their first 12 premier league games this term, Klopp’s side are currently fifth in the premier league, just one point behind fourth-placed Tottenham.
