Chelsea Set Surprise Move To Beat Arsenal For Highly-rated Defender’s Signature

Chelsea have made initial move to sign Wolfsburg defender, Ricardo Rodriguez according to reports.

The Blues have made contact with the Swiss defender’s agent as Conte looks to beat Arsenal to the highly-rated defender.

The 24-year-old defender has been stand-out performer for the Bundesliga side since he joined in 2012, making over 150 appearances and attracted attention from a host of clubs with his impressive displays.

Reports in the Sun claim that Arsenal have kept tabs on Rodriguez for months and even came close to signing him last summer but may see their hopes dashed by rivals Chelsea.

It is understood that Antonio Conte has made attempts to lure the left-back to Stamford Bridge and January move could materialise.

The Blues boss wants to bolster his squad in the winter transfer window despite his side’s thunderous form in the league after a slow start to the campaign.

Wolfsburg is said to value Rodriguez at around £21m and is capable of fitting into the wing-back position for Chelsea. Althought the position is currently occupied by Marco Alonso but Conte believes Rodriguez will provide healthy competition with the Italian

Chelsea are currently one-game away from beating Arsenal’s record of 13-game winning streak as they play Tottenham Hotspur next Wednesday.
