Arsenal intersted in signing Dortmund midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan

Arsenal are interested in Leicester City’s Riyad Mahrez but signing Borussia Dortmund’s Henrikh Mkhitaryan is their priority this summer, a source close to the London club has disclosed.

Arsenal are closing in on the signing of Leicester striker Jamie Vardy and have also been linked with his teammate Mahrez, who won the PFA Player of the Year award this season.

However, a source close to the club has now said that, while the Algeria international remains on the wanted list, Dortmund attacking midfielder Mkhitaryan is currently their first choice.

Mkhitaryan, 27, has just over 12 months remaining on his current contract at Dortmund and his agent, Mino Raiola, recently indicated that there are no plans to sign an extension.

The Armenia international joined Dortmund from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2013 and excelled under Thomas Tuchel last season.

Dortmund will reportedly demand around €35 million for Mkhitaryan, who has also been linked with Chelsea, should he fail to prolong his deal
