Chelsea To Switch Attention To PL Star After Missing Out On Top Target

Leicester City star player Riyad Mahrez has emerged as a target for Chelsea this summer.

And according to reports, the premier league champions are monitoring his situation at Leicester City as they weigh option for him as an alternative to Dries Mertens.

Chelsea have made Mertens one of their priority targets this summer, but the striker snubbed interest from the Stamford Bridge club to sign a new contract at Napoli.

Mahrez couldn’t find his feet last season as Leicester City slumped to mid-table after their superb achievement in the 2015/16 season. However, the player is being regarded as a top talent capable of performing well in a bigger club.

According to the London Evening Standard, Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is now moving his focus to the Algerian star player despite Arsenal interests.

It is understood that Mahrez is a Chelsea admirer particularly after they were able to win the Premier League title last month.

In the 2015/16 Premier League season, the 26-year-old scored 17 league goals and won the prestigious PFA Player of the Year award for his superb performances. But in the just concluded season, he was only able to score six goals and provided three assists in 36 premier league games for the Foxes.
