Chelsea suffer massive transfer blow in pursuit of Faouzi Ghoulam

With few months left on his contract, Napoli star and reported Chelsea transfer target Faouzi Ghoulam has ended rumour over his future.

Ghoulam, 26, was set to join the free agent train at the end of the current season with an expiring deal, and the Metro reporting that Premier League duo of Chelsea and Liverpool were keen on signing him.

Given manager Jurgen Klopp still has issues at left-back position with defender Alberto Moreno prone to mistakes, Chelsea boss Antonio Conte must bring in additional depth and quality in that role given an over-reliance on Spaniard Marcos Alonso who has rarely not played 90 minutes this campaign.

Further, having sealed himself as a prominent figure in Maurizio Sarri’s team, helping them move up to the next level to fight for the Italian Serie A title last campaign and now this season, it’s no shock that Ghoulam was gaining much significant interest from suitors elsewhere.

However, according to a recent tweet from the player himself and Serie A league leaders Napoli, the Algerian has now signed a new contract which will keep him at the club until 2022.

Premier League leaders Manchester City are also named in the report from news outlet the Metro, but the Premier League suitors are all now ready to be left highly disappointed.
