Manchester United star player Marouane Fellaini has been called upon to his national side’s latest squad despite not travelling with the rest of the Manchester United team to Russia for their Champions League win over CSKA Moscow on Wednesday as a result of his ankle injury.
The Belgium international picked up the injury during his side’s 1-0 win over Southampton last Saturday and wasn’t present when the red devils beat CSKA Moscow 4-1 on Wednesday.
A few days ago, Mourinho said there would be ‘no pressure’ on him to play for his national side during the international break. The manager also admitted tat the 29-year-old is a doubt to play against Crystal Palace in the premier league this Saturday.
‘I don’t expect [him] to be out for a long time. There is no pressure on him [in the international break] so hopefully, he will be back for us.’ Mourinho said of Fellaini.
But the midfielder has made Belgium’s latest squad for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Greece and Bosnia-Herzegovina, even though it is not yet certain if he will feature in the games.
Also invited by Roberto Martinez is Manchester City’s Vincent Kompany who has not been playing for Pep Guardiola’s side since August 26.
Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois and Liverpool’s Karius Mignolet are among the four goalkeepers who also made Martinez’s squad, but both will need to attend to premier league business this weekend before jetting out of the country.
