Chelsea Striker Secures 3rd Spot On France Topscorer List

Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud has secured the third spot on the list of all-time topscorer for the French national team after his latest goal in the colours of Les Blues.

The former Arsenal player was on target for the world champions during their thumping victory over Iceland at home.

It was the second game of their Euro 2020 qualifying campaign.

France thrashed Iceland 4-0 in front of their fans to maintain top spot in Group H.

The world champions took the lead in the 12th minute through Barcelona defender Samuel Umtiti and France thereafter took the advantage into the halftime interval.

Olivier Giroud added a second goal for France midway into the second half for his 35th international goal thus moving to third on the list of all-time French senior national team topscorers ahead of David Trezeguet (34 goals).

He had moved joint third with the aforementioned Trezeguet after the 32-year-old scored one of the goals in their Euro 2020 qualifying opening win over Moldova on Friday night.

France thrashed Moldova 4-1 away from home and Giroud got one of those goals.

France were leading 2-0 against Iceland into the final twelve minutes of the game before Kylian Mbappe and Antoine Griezmann made it a comprehensive 4-0 victory for the world champions.
