Mourinho Says Star Midfielder Wants To Join Manchester United Desperately

According to Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho, Serbia international and Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic is eager to leave Stamford Bridge and sign for Premier League Rivals Manchester United.

As per reports, a deal in the region of £40million is close to being agreed between both clubs for the 28-year-old midfielder.

The Serbian would be Manchester United’s third summer signing, following the signing of defender Victor Lindelof from Matic’s former club Benfica and striker Romelu Lukaku from Premier League club Everton. It would also be the second time Jose Mourinho has bought Nemanja Matic, having signed him for Chelsea back in 2014.

When the Portuguese was asked about the possibility of signing Matic after United’s 3-0 pre-season friendly win against Valerenga in Oslo on Sunday, the Portuguese tactician said in a press conference shown on MUTV: ” He’s waiting for news.

The Blues spent £21million just over three and a half years ago to sign Matic from Benfica for a second spell at the Bridge.

His possible arrival at United might spark rumour around the future of Belgian Marouane Fellaini, and the former Everton man was linked with a move to Galatasaray over the weekend.

The Belgian, in the final year of his current contract, provided a reminder of what he can do by heading United’s opening goal against Valerenga and after the match, Mourinho dismissed suggestions he would be sold.
