Man City Set To Snatch Player From Liverpool’s Grip, But He Wants Anfield Move

Southampton defender Virgil Van Dijk was heavily linked with Liverpool during the past summer transfer window, but a deal couldn’t materialise before the closure of the window and the Dutchman stayed with the Saints for this campaign.

But if the latest reports are anything to go by, it appears the talented player will leave St Mary’s in January, and two clubs were mentioned to be in the race for his signature.

Manchester City star defender John Stones is now injured, and the Mirror made it known that they are now set to battle Liverpool for Virgil’s signature when the winter transfer window opens.

The Netherlands international was keen on joining Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool during the summer window and he submitted a transfer request to Southampton. However, the Saints refused to let go of him, and failed to change their stance of ‘you are going nowhere’

This season so far, he has featured in 7 premier league games for his current side, and the club are currently sitting on the 14th spot of the table.

The Mirror also added that the 27-year-old has told his friends that his heart is set on a move to Anfield.

Glaringly, Klopp needs to sign a top-class defender when January comes, and Virgil van Dijk perfectly fits the bill.

The Dutchman is worth £60M, and Liverpool must ensure Man City won’t snatch him away from them.
