Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has made public his decision to keep starting Andreas Christensen instead of Brazilian David Luiz at the back of his 3-5-2 formation.
The Denmark international defender was called up two weeks ago against Premier League rivals Manchester United as David Luiz was dropped from the entire squad, and the Italian tactician insists that this decision is purely tactical and that the Brazilian is no longer facing any punishment.
The Blues manager said in his presser after the 4-0 loss of West Bromwich Albion on Saturday that he has answered that his decision was purely tactical. Every match, he tries to make the best decision for the side, and if he’s taking this decision it means Andres Christensen deserves to play.
The centre-back hasn’t done anything to lose that spot, and Chelsea have kept clean sheets twice in his two recent games. He averages 92.1% pass completion, the fifth highest in the English Premier League.
The defender is already a fan favourite at the Bridge, with the biggest Luiz supporters agreeing that the youngster has earned his place, and should remain at the back unless his game performances drop off.
However, as the former Juventus manager points out, there’s a hectic run of matches coming up, with an away game in Azerbaijan next. There will be a number of opportunities for the former PSG defender as this current campaign wears on.
