Chelsea eye last minute move for 25-year-old ace after missing out on Arsenal star

Premier League Champions Chelsea are working on a deadline day transfer move for Southampton ace Cedric Soares after Arsenal star attacker Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain decided to join rivals Liverpool over the English Premier League champions.

Liverpool bound Arsenal star Oxlade-Chamberlain, is poised to penning a contract for Liverpool today after the Reds agreed on a £40million transfer fee with the Gunners and he turned down the advances of West London giant Chelsea.

The England international midfielder is the latest in a long list of players that Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has failed to sign this summer, with Conte also failing to sign Belgium international striker Romelu Lukaku, Danilo, and Alex Sandro.

But the Blues are still expected to be busy today – deadline day and the Guardian is reporting that Conte’s team will try to sign a right wing-back following Oxlade-Chamberlain’s decision to join Liverpool.

It is believed that Chelsea are considering renewing their interest in Southampton defender Soares, who has impressed for his Premier League side since joining them two years ago.

Southampton might be unwilling to cash in on the 25-year-old, however, and the Blues also face missing out on Rafinha, who Bundesliga giant Bayern Munich do not plan to sell.

The Chelsea boss has a better chance of strengthening his midfield before the transfer window closes tonight – England midfielder Danny Drinkwater is expected to seal a transfer from Leicester City while Everton’s Ross Barkley could still join Chelsea, with Spurs also interested in the Englishman.
