Napoli star player Dries Mertens has been linked with a move away from the club in recent times after he emerged as a target for premier league heavyweights Manchester United.
According to new reports, manager Jose Mourinho is ready to add more power to his attack when summer comes, and the Portuguese boss will try bringing Mertens to Old Trafford by activating his release clause at the end of this season.
Mertens currently has a release clause of €28million in his contract at Napoli, but the Serie A side are desperate to make him put pen on paper for a new deal so as to increase the clause.
However, the 31-year-old is said to be fed up with life at the Italian side and he’s ready to leave the club (particularly because of manager Mauirizio Sarri)
Sarri is expected to leave Naples at the end of this season, and it appears some of the club’s top stars will leave with him.
Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has been keeping tabs on Dries, and it appears this is the best time to get the experienced star player.
Italian news outlet Gazzetta dello Sport made it known that Manchester United have identified Mertens as one of the players they should bring over to Old Trafford this summer.
