Manchester United have reportedly submitted a final offer for Tottenham Hotspur defender, Toby Alderweireld.
The Belgian has made linked with a move to the Old Trafford since the start of the summer window, with reports that the player also wants to join the Red Devils.
However, both clubs have failed to reach an agreement over a transfer move, as Spurs remain adamant that the defender will not leave for cheap despite the fact that he will be available for £25 million next summer due to a clause in his current deal with Spurs.
United boss Jose Mourinho has told the club transfer chiefs that he wants a central defender before the end of the summer window. The club have since been linked with a number of targets since then, the likes of Harry Maguire and Yerry Mina have tipped to make a move to the Old Trafford but the deals has fallen through due to the transfer valuation by the clubs involved.
Reports in the Daily Mirror have it that United have told Tottenham Hotspur that they will not pay more than £40 million for Alderweireld, following speculations that the Londoners want a fee over £50 million for the defender.
Manchester United have prioritized signing a central defender before the end of the summer window, but will have to look at other options as they try to get value for cash being spent.
