Mateo Kovacic

Croatian midfielder Matteo Kovacic has joined Chelsea from Real Madrid in a season-long loan deal.

The midfielder becomes the fourth player to join Chelsea this summer, following the arrival of Rob Green, Jorginho and Kepa Arrizabalaga to the Stamford Bridge earlier this summer.

Kovacic who refused to train with Real Madrid until his future was resolved, was a target for Manchester United but he refused to join the Red Devils due to Jose Mourinho’s style of play.

However, the 24-year-old has join Premier League rivals due to the playing style of Maurizio Sarri. The arrival of Kovacic came right after the signing of Kepa Arrizbalanga who is currently the most expensive goalkeeper ever.

Kovacic was part of the Croatian team that took second at the World Cup in Russia, and was wary of his lack of chances at Real Madrid, despite reports that the hierarchy at Santiago Bernabeu tried to convince the midfielder to remain at the club for another season.

Chelsea are believed to have finished the transfer business for this summer, despite reports that Kurt Zouma has joined Everton
