Virgil Van Dijk Scores For His Side’s Under-23s

Southampton defender Virgil Van Dijk is back in action for his side, and he scored a goal for their U23 side when they clashed with Stoke City.

During the past summer transfer window, the Dutchman was constantly in the news after he emerged as a target for top English clubs including Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal.

However, Southampton refused to let go of him, and no amount of money could make them change their stance of ‘we are not selling him this summer’.

Van Dijk has established himself as one of the top defenders in the English top flight in recent terms and is one of the most important members at Southampton. And despite his desire to go elsewhere, a move couldn’t occur before the closure of the transfer window.

It is understood that the central defender favours Liverpool over other clubs that are interested in him and that he is looking forward to working with Jurgen Klopp. He reportedly held talks with the German boss, but the deal was abandoned when his side threatened to report Liverpool to the FA for approaching him illegally.

Klopp’s side are expected to come for the 26-year-old in January transfer window, but it remains to be seen if the Saints will allow him to leave for Liverpool considering their strained relationship.
