Emery to £80,000-a-week star: you need to focus on your football to help the team!

Emery to Ramsey: Focus on your Football!

Aaron Ramsey has been urged by the team coach Unai Emery to show his ‘capacity to help the team.’ The 27-year-old Welshman who was left out of his team’s starting XI in the 3-2 loss to Chelsea was told to focus on his football amid the lingering contract negotiations with the club.

Emery was asked if the player lacked focus and he responded by saying, ‘I don’t know, but I am thinking in the present.’

‘I spoke with him last week but now, today, my focus is on the match and I want the player to be focused only on Saturday.’

Ramsey who is in the final season of his contract with the Gunners has been deadlocked in a never-ending contract negotiation with the North London club for over six months now. Authorities at the club insist a fair deal has been offered but the former Cardiff City player wants double of his current weekly wages. The player’s agent has however debunked the statement as untrue.

Former Arsenal defender and BBC soccer analyst has advised Emery to do whatever it takes to keep the Welsh midfielder at the club. He opined that Arsenal couldn’t afford to lose players of Ramsey’s quality.

Speculations have been mounting in the last couple of weeks regarding the player’s future with the London club as his contract situation remains unsettled. Barcelona and Liverpool are said to be keen on acquiring the services of the player if the two parties don’t reach a mutual agreement.

The 27-year-old will hope to play a big part in the game against West Ham as he returns to the starting XI. His side will be seeking to control the game and earn their first 3-points of the League campaign under Emery.
