Chelsea linked with transfer for Timo Werner

Despite securing the signing of Olivier Giroud from North London side Arsenal in the winter window, the France international is likely only for the short term having signed an 18-month deal and the Blues will want to land a younger striker very soon.

Clinical young forward

Forward Timo Werner has been one of Bundesliga’s most clinical strikers since joining Bundesliga side Red Bull Leipzig from Stuttgart about 18 months ago and has been strongly linked with a move to clubs like Real Madrid and Liverpool but now Premier League Champions Chelsea are being named as a potential suitor.

According to Calciomercato, the 21-year-old German international forward, who is under contract with the German side until 2020, has rejected a new contract with last season’s German league runners-up amid severe interest from some top European sides.

Top Euro sides mentioned

Recently, Werner disclosed there was interest in his signature, including the blues who are among a number of English Premier League clubs named.

He said there are a lot of top sides in Europe, including Atletico Madrid, Barcelona and Real Madrid in Spain, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham, Manchester United and City in the Premier League.

There has been reported talk that Paris Saint Germain could make an approach to sign Chelsea forwrad Alvaro Morata in the summer transfer window if AS Roma seal a move for Edinson Cavani, meaning the Blues would almost surely need to reinforce in that position.
