Virgil van Dijk has emerged as a target for Liverpool this summer and the player appears determined to make the move away from Southampton before the commencement of the upcoming campaign.

In a new development, it was reported that the Netherlands international is training alone after admitting he wasn’t prepared to make himself available to play for the Saints.

Van Dijk’s future is yet unclear following his impressive performances at Southampton that attracted attentions from a host of top clubs in England who have showed interest in him this transfer window.

Liverpool appeared to be at the fore front for him as his club threatened to report the Anfield club to the Premier League forcing the reds to officially issue an apology to the Saints.

Nevertheless, it is understood that the Dutchman himself desire moving to Liverpool, as he is bound to get regular playing time in Jurgen Klopp’s squad and play in the Champions League – which will be a major upgrade in his career.

Apart from Liverpool, premier league champions Chelsea are also linked with Van Dijk as there is still a need to add more options to their back line following the exits of John Terry and Nathan Ake.

And the 26-year-old has now made it clear he wants to depart Southampton with the club’s new boss Mauricio Pellegrino confirming he’s training alone.

‘The boy said that he is not available to play because he wants to leave. This is the decision,’ Pellegrino said.
