Liverpool Target To Miss Chile Friendly Game

United States manager Gregg Berhalter has confirmed that star midfielder Weston McKennie will miss the upcoming friendly with Chile because of an injury.

Berhalter told Goal that the Schalke 04 player would miss the Chile game because of an ankle injury.

He sustained the injury during the international friendly win over South American nation Ecuador on Thursday night.

Weston McKennie played for 68 minutes before he was stretchered off and subsequently replaced by Christian Roldan of Seattle Sounders in the MLS (Major League Soccer).

The scoreline was goalless when the Liverpool target exited the game but his team eventually won 1-0 with Gyasi Zardes getting the only goal of the game.

Weston McKennie has been linked with a move to the Premier League with Liverpool mentioned as a possible transfer destination for the highly rated midfielder.

The 20-year-old burst onto the German Bundesliga scene this season and his performances for Schalke 04 have gone unnoticed with the biggest clubs on the European football scene including Premier League leaders Liverpool.

Weston McKennie was part of the Schalke 04 team that got knocked out of the Champions League at the last 16 stage earlier this month.

McKennie and Schalke 04 were convincingly beaten by Premier League champions Manchester City via a 10-2 aggregate defeat.
