Salah, Egypt Favourites For 2019 AFCON

Former Senegalese striker El-Hadji Diouf has revealed that Mohamed Salah is Egypt’s favourites for this year’s African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

In an exclusive interview with Goal, Diouf said that tournament hosts Egypt are the team to beat before adding that his native, Senegal are also in the mix for the 2019 AFCON title.

El-Hadji Diouf was often controversial during his time on the pitch for both his clubs and the Senegalese national team.

Diouf was part of the Senegal team that reached the 2002 AFCON before playing a major role in the West African nation’s run to the quarterfinals of the 2002 FIFA World Cup tournament in South Korea and Japan.

Egypt are the 2019 AFCON hosts and star player Mohamed Salah is their best player.

In addition, Salah is the reigning 2019 African Player of the Year after a stellar season for Liverpool in the last campaign.

The former Chelsea and AS Roma player scored 44 goals in 52 games in all competitions for the Reds last season.

In addition, Mohamed Salah also broke the record for the number of goals scored in a 38-game Premier League in the last campaign with 32 goals.

It was his first season at Liverpool since his big money move from Italian Serie A club AS Roma.
