Southampton defender Jan Bednarek has praised the impact of Virgil Van Dijk at Liverpool ahead of their Premier League meeting on Friday.
The Saints host Premier League title chasers Liverpool with the hope of putting spanner in the works of the Reds who are keen to end a 29-year wait for a league title.
Southampton are five points above the relegation zone ahead of the Liverpool game and a positive result against their more illustrious opponents will take them further away from the troubled zone.
Speaking ahead of the game, Jan Bednarek praised his former Southampton teammate as he described him as the best central defender in world football.
According to him, the Polish defender looks up to Virgil Van Dijk as he tries to take his game to the next level.
Virgil Van Dijk has been able to live up to his hefty price tag at Liverpool.
The 27-year-old became the most expensive defender in the history of world football when Liverpool splashed the whopping sum of £75m on him.
The Dutch international player joined the Reds from Southampton in January 2018.
He was a key member of the Liverpool squad that reached the Champions League final last season before playing a big part in the Reds’ quest for the Premier League title this term.
