RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner was on target for his team in their German Cup quarterfinal clash with Augsburg on Tuesday night.
German national team star Werner gave RB Leipzig a 74th-minute lead before Augsburg striker Alfred Finbongasson equalised for the hosts on the stroke of full-time.
The goal from home striker Finbongasson forced extra time but it was the visitors who got the all-important second goal through Marcel Halstenberg just before the end of extra time.
Halstenberg scored from the spot to give RB Leipzig a 2-1 win after extra time.
Timo Werner played 84 minutes before he was subbed off for Austrian international player Stefan Ilsanker.
Werner has been linked with a move to the Premier League.
Leaders Liverpool are keen on a summer move for him, though they are expected to face threat from Germany in their quest to sign him.
He has one year left on his RB Leipzig contract and that has boosted the uncertainty over his long-term future at his club following his failure to enter contract discussions with the RB Leipzig hierarchy.
Apart from Premier League leaders Liverpool, German Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund have also been touted as possible transfer destinations for the aforementioned Timo Werner.
