Man United Top Target Reveals Transfer Approach

Belgian star player Dries Mertens was very much in the news during the summer transfer window after he emerged as a target for a handful of top European clubs including Manchester United and Chelsea.

And the Napoli star player has recently made it known that he received an approach from La Liga giants Barcelona during the summer, although he chose to remain with Napoli for this campaign.

This season so far, Mertens has scored 10 goals and provided three assists in just 12 top-flight games for Napoli.

As talk continues to hot-up regarding the 30-year-old’s future, the Serie A side face a fight to hang on to the talented player.

And speaking recently about interests from premier league sides, Dries also revealed he came close to moving to Barcelona in the summer.

He also made it known that he only turned down the offer to join the Catalan giants due to the numerous attacking talents already in the club, without knowing Neymar would eventually leave the club before the closure of the transfer window.

Mertens admits he would have been the reserve to Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar, and he decided to sign a new contract with Napoli instead.
