Liverpool Target Virgil Van Dijk Hints Of Possible January Move

Southampton central defender Virgil Van Dijk has indicated he would be interested in moving to Anfield in the upcoming winter transfer window if the reds can persuade his current side to sell him.

Van Dijk was a hot prospect during the summer transfer window after emerging as a target for a handful of top English clubs including Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool.

He, however, favoured a move to Anfield after Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is reported to have held a meeting with him to convince him to come play at his side.

The deal was nevertheless paused when the Saints accused Jurgen Klopp’s side of approaching their skipper illegally, forcing Liverpool to issue a public apology as they were being threatened to be reported to the FA.

On his part, the Dutchman submitted a transfer request to Southampton to force a move out of St Mary’s, but they failed to change their stance about him, and won’t accept any price to let go of the talented player.

Even though the Netherlands international remains with the Saints this season, he has recently suggested he is still looking to leave the club.

Speaking to Fox Sports, he admits he is personally fit again and that he desire to take a move forward in his career during the transfer window, but was hindered by the Saints.

But he has his mind on January:

‘Halfway through the season, maybe we can see what is possible.’ he added.
