Nevertheless, we need to be realistic with things here. What many fans out there failed to recognise about Ibrahimovic is that, actually, this was a pretty standard performance from him. The crucial difference we can point to is that for the third game in a row, he didn’t find the net.
It is obvious that he was unhappy with the tempo of the game, and he insisted on dropping back and involving himself as much as possible – maybe in a bid to sharpen up Man United’s attacking approach. Then by so doing, he made the No.9 position void. There was no reference point at the tip of their attack and no poacher waiting in the opponent’s box for a chance.
