Van Dijk Reveals Why He Joined Liverpool

Dutch international defender Virgil Van Dijk has revealed the reason behind his decision to sign for Premier League table-toppers Liverpool.

Van Dijk, 27, became the most expensive defender in the history of world football when Liverpool splashed a whopping sum of £75m on him.

Liverpool signed Van Dijk from fellow Premier League club Southampton after a protracted transfer saga.

Southampton had issues with the Reds’ manner of approach but both parties settled their differences thus paving the way for the player to move to Anfield at the start of last summer.

In a chat with Premier League productions, Virgil Van Dijk revealed that he joined Liverpool to challenge and win league titles.

The former Celtic and Groningen centre back has made a remarkable impact on the Liverpool team since his transfer, especially on the defensive front.

With the help of Van Dijk, Liverpool have the best defence in the league with 18 goals conceded in 31 games in the Premier League.

The Reds have also kept 17 clean sheets which is more than that of any other team in the division.

Virgil Van Dijk had earlier made an instant impact on the club in the Champions League last season.

The Dutch defender was instrumental to the Reds’s run to the Champions League final before the 3-1 loss to Real Madrid.
