Liverpool is ready to match Manchester city’s offer for AS Monaco defender, Benjamin Mendy, according to reports.
Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is looking to add a left-back this summer and have identified a number of targets to fill the position that has been occupied by Englishman James Milner, who is naturally disposed of as a midfielder.
Reports in RMC Sport claim that Liverpool is spoken to Monaco about signing Mendy, who has been a standout performer for the French champions. Â But they will have to compete with Manchester City who has also made an offer to sign the powerful defender.
There are speculations that a number of clubs in the Premier League and Europe are also monitoring Mendy’s signature.
Klopp is understood to be keen on landing the defender ahead of City, who have completed a summer move for his teammate, Bernardo Silva.
Pep Guardiola have also had problems at the left-back position and started efforts to bolster his squad in a bid to better his squad next season.
It is understood that Manchester City has tabled an offer of £39million for Benjamin Mendy but will have to fight off interest from Liverpool who is ready to lure the defender having qualified for the Champions League next season.
