Manchester City Close In On Summer Deal For Versatile United Target

Manchester City are closing in on a summer deal for AS Monaco defender Fabinho ahead of Manchester United, according to reliable reports.

City boss Pep Guardiola is believed to be in the market for right-back after getting disatisfied by the performances of ageing Bacay Sagna this season, with reports that he will sign a new defender this summer.

Reports by Barcerlona-based journalist Gerard Romero, who had been spot-on with transfers regarding Pep Guardiola in the past, breaking the news of Leroy Sane, John Stones and Nolito’s arrivals to the Etihad last summer.

Manchester United have also been credited with an interest in Fabinho but it appears City has got this one ahead of their local rivals.

It is understood that Guardiola is thrilled at the prospects of having Fabinho who is capable of playing at right-back and defensive midfield positions with suggestions that he could be a viable replacement for Yaya Toure who might leave City at the end of the season.

There are strong indications that Fabinho has reached an agreement with Monaco about a potential move this summer if they receive a right offer, with reports that Manchester City are ready to dole out a fee around £25million to have the 23-year-old wear the white and blues strips next season.
