Arsenal Prepare Offer To Sign £57.3m-rated Star As Liverpool Lead Race For Main Target

Premier League giants Arsenal are weighing up a move to bring in defender Jose Gimenez from La Liga side Atletico Madrid, as per reports in Spain.

Arsenal Prepare Offer For La liga star

Spanish publication El Gol Digital, as suggested by Sports Illustrated, is reporting that Arsenal have turned their focus towards the defender after giving up in their attempt to land Lazio ace Stefan de Vrij.

As per the same report, the North Londoners will now focus their attention on trying to bring in the 23-year-old ace Gimenez because Merseyside club Liverpool are leading the race to sign De Vrij from Lazio.

It is suggested that the defender would not come at a low price, however. The same report states that the player would command a fee in excess of £57.3million in the summer window.

Gimenez has netted a goal in 16 Spanish La Liga matches for Spanish side Atletico Madrid under the tutelage of Argentine Diego Simeone so far this campaign.

Reinforcement required at the back

The Gunners are likely to be interested in bolstering their backline in the summer window after their rather shaky shape throughout the campaign.

Arsenal were strongly criticised for their poor defensive performance as they were defeated 3-0 by Premier League leaders Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley Stadium on Sunday.

They are presently sixth in the League ahead of the trip of the Etihad giant to The Emirates Stadium on Thursday night.
