Is this player really needed at Anfield?

Pascal Gross

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is surprisingly linked with a move for his compatriot Pascal Gross who plays for Brighton in England.

The 27-year-old is making headlines in recent weeks as a result of his perfect start to the season and the latest rumour has it that the Reds are keeping close tabs on him.

Since his move to the Seagulls from Ingolstadt in 2017, the midfielder has contributed to 15 goals (eight goals, seven assists) and his reputation in England is growing rapidly.

IS HE REALLY NEEDED BY THE REDS?

Klopp must be seeing something different from what everyone is seeing for him to have made a move for his countryman.

The Reds are fully loaded at the middle of the pitch and there is no obvious reason why he should be wasting money on a player who will hardly get game-time at Anfield.

Gross isn’t a young player that we should say the former Borussia Dortmund manager is planning for the future.

The Brighton midfielder is in his late twenties, hence, Klopp’s desire to capture his signature remains incomprehensible.

Fabinho and Keita are very much available in the team while Oxlade-Chamberlain is on his way to full recovery, it will be very difficult for Gross to break into the team anytime soon.

LIVERPOOL NEED DEFENDERS NOT MIDFIELDERS

The German manager should take a second look at his team with wide-opened eyes so as to see the obvious fact that he lacks quality defenders.

Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez are out of action due to injury. Joel matip was also ruled out of action for some weeks as a result of an injury.

The Reds have just two fully-fit centre-backs in Virgil Van Dijk and Dejan Lovren. There is an urgent need for Klopp to get a centre-back in the next transfer market.

WHO SHOULD KLOPP BRING TO ANFIELD?

Stefan De Vrij

The Dutchman is one of the most sought-after defenders in the world and Liverpool should be joining the race for his signature.

The 26-year-old hasn’t settled quite well with Inter Milan and he could be leaving the Serie A giants in January, despite joining the San Siro outfits in the summer.

Considering the fact that Virgil Van Dijk, Dejan Lovren and Stefan De Vrij have all played together at international level, the Milan defender won’t feel isolated. He will definitely be a good addition to the Reds defensive setup.

Let’s hope Klopp wakes up to the truth that Pascal Gross is not needed at Anfield as he would only feature as a bit-part player.
