Chelsea could be rescued when Barcelona take this step

According to reports, La Liga giants Barcelona are now in the race for Virgil Van Dijk’s signature ahead of the January transfer window.

The Dutchman has been linked with a handful of top English clubs and is the subject of intense speculation in recent times.

Van Dijk has been left out of Southampton’s two most recent games, suggesting the St Mary’s club are trying to adapt to life without him and will definitely get him sold in January.

The 26-year-old was close to joining Liverpool during the past summer transfer window, but the Anfield club were forced to pause the move due to Southampton’s complaint.

It is understood Pep Guardiola is ready to pay a whopping £60M to convince the Saints to send van Dijk over to Manchester City in January.

And according to Spanish news outlet Sport, Barcelona have joined the battle for Virgil’s signature.

The La Liga heavyweights are keen on reinforcing their defense department and have identified the Dutchman as a good guy for the job.

Chelsea are also interested in signing the Netherlands international. Recently, manager Antonio Conte has encouraged other sides to try signing the defender ahead of Manchester City.

The former Juventus boss is alarmed and worried that Man City are getting all the top players in the continent. Perhaps, Barcelona are coming to the rescue!
