Klopp Accused Of Taking Decision That Contribute To Liverpool’s Woes

Former Liverpool man Phil Thompson insists his former side have sold their ‘best defender’ when they allowed Mamadou Sakho leave in the summer.

Sakho moved to Liverpool in 2013 from Paris Saint-Germain but fell out of favour with the club’s boss Jurgen Klopp last year.

The France international was sent out on loan to Crystal Palace for the second-half of last term and he impressed greatly at the club, helping them avoid relegation.

The Eagles ended 14th last season, and the impact of Sakho cannot be overemphasised.

However, the 27-year-old couldn’t make Liverpool boss Klopp have a change of heart, and he was eventually sold to the Eagles on deadline day for a fee said to be in the region of £30million.

And speaking recently to Sky Sports about his former club, Thompson hailed Sakho as the best defender in Jurgen Klopp’s team, and condemns the German’s decision to get him sold.

The Anfield club have conceded 11 goals in their six Premier League matches so far this term and are glaringly not strong at the back.

Jurgen has hoped he could complete a seal for Virgil van Dijk during the summer transfer window, but his club did not allow him leave St Mary’s despite he handling in a transfer request.

The Dutchman is however understood to remain interested in moving to Anfield whenever another chance comes, and all attention is now towards the January transfer window.
