Arsenal transfer news – Crystal Palace tabled £16m bid for Calum Chambers

According to reports, Crystal Palace have tabled a £16m offer to sign Arsenal defender Calum Chambers.

The Englishman had a successful season long loan spell with Middlesbrough last campaign, despite the club’s relegation to the lower division-Championship.

The Ex-Southampton defender is surplus to requirements at the North London club. The Gunners are trying to cash in on Chambers and other players such as Jack Wilshere, Kieran Gibbs, Lucas Perez, Mathieu Debuchy, Carl Jenkinson and Wojciech Szczesny to raise more fund for quality signings.

British tabloid Telegraph reports that Crystal Palace are keen on signing the England Under-21 international this summer transfer window.

After joining Arsenal for £16m from Southampton back in 2014, the defender made an impressive start to life at the Emirates. However, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has found it hard to identify his best position, playing him as a right-back, centre-half, and defensive midfield.

This led to the defender being frozen out, and at a young age of 22, Chambers needs regular first-team football to aid his development – and that’s exactly what Crystal Palace could offer him.

With the recent signing of Ajax defender Jairo Riedewald close to completion, Calum Chambers would also compete with James Tomkins, Scott Dann and Damien Delaney for a starting shirt.
