United eager to sign £40m-rated defender

Manchester United are reportedly keen to have the signature of German Bundesliga outfit Bayer Leverkusen central defender Jonathan Tah with the hope of having him join the Old Trafford in coming weeks when the winter transfer window is opened.

There are fears that the Red Devils would lose Eric Bailly and Phil Jones who are both seeking to leave the club which makes it necessary for a new addition to strengthen the squad.

The Red Devils have conceded a number of goals this season, within the short time frame and the manager Jose Mourinho has consistently hinted that his side have failed because of his lack of solid defenders.

However, it is believed that he will storm the winter transfer window for more additions in the team and Jonathan Tah could just be the deal for the Old Trafford side.

Jonathan Tah has played a total of 14 games this season and scored a goal in one of the games to add to his quality of good defending and quality.

It is therefore not clear if the United board will be willing to hand any funds to the Portuguese boss as they seem to have given up on his ability to deliver silverware to the club.
