Unai Emery wins first Premier League game as Arsenal Manager

Unai Emery’s Arsenal side finally got off the mark in the Premier League with their first win of the campaign on Saturday afternoon.

With the former Sevilla and Paris Saint-Germain coach under pressure for his side to earn their first 3-points of the League campaign, the Spanish gaffer rang in just one change to the side that lost to Chelsea with Aaron Ramsey coming in for Mesut Ozil who has been rumoured to have had a training ground bust up with Emery.

The Hammers stunned the hosts in the 25th minute through Marco Arnautovic’s well taken shot from the edge of the box. Arsenal equalised five minutes later through Nacho Monreal who nodded home Hector Bellerin’s cross. An own goal from Diop and a late Danny Welbeck’s goal deep in stoppage time ensured the 3-points for the Gunners.

With the win, Arsenal move up to 12th place leaving Manuel Pellegrini’s men languishing in the bottom position with no wins out of three matches.

Emery will be relieved with his first win as an Arsenal manager but he will be concerned about his defensive set up which has leaked in six goals in their last 3 games. West Ham on a number of occasions breached Arsenal’s high defence line but couldn’t take their chances as they came against a team with better attackers, the opposition could easily have netted more than the scoreline indicates.

As has been reiterated by the Gunners boss who has said that his team are a work in progress, Arsenal fans will be hoping that their defensive frailties will be corrected if they are to make a mark in the Premier League this season.
