Unai Emery explains why Arsenal struggled in the first half

Arsenal manager, Unai Emery is pleased to have a win at the St James Park against Newcastle United

The win is a major boost and relieves to the team after so many doubts owing to the slow start and two consecutive defeats against Manchester City and Chelsea respectively.

However, the team was seen to have struggled in the first half and the Spanish manager has got an explanation for that.

The former PSG manager stated that as planned, his boys failed to have needed control over the game which would have helped.

He added that getting the game under control would have helped the Gunners impose their ideas on the play and that would have been enough to destabilize their host.

He lamented the failure to conclude some of the counter attacks which ended up in an attack against his team, in addition to the corners that were conceded in the first half.

He stated that all of the issues were talked about in the second half which helped in handing his side the win against Newcastle.

He praised his team’s positioning during each attack in the second half as most of them were concluded.

The Spaniard ended by stating that the first goal gave the confidence to improve on the match and to impose the intended ideas on the game.
