Transfer News: Manchester United Set To Sign £30m Rated Serie A Star, Chelsea Wants Him Too

According to a new report from sources in Italy, Manchester United are still leading the race to sign Lazio defender Stefan de Vrij.  The Dutchman is heavily expected to leave Lazio in summer with his current deal set to expire 12 months later.

Different reports already claim that a verbal agreement with United has been made and the Old Trafford club are confident of beating off competition from other teams like Chelsea and AC Milan for the 25-year-old centre-back.

De Vrij is one of the best young centre-backs in Serie A and is highly rated too. He had put in consistent performances time and again for his Serie A side and has already been capped 30 times for his senior national team.

This season so far, the  Netherlands International has already made 16 appearances in Serie A and has been an integral member of the Lazio squad who are currently 4th placed in the Serie A table.

Even though Manchester United have plenty of defensive options, Jose Mourinho is still said to be on the lookout for a top quality centre-back and De Vrij’s tackling and decision-making skills are said to have greatly impressed the Portuguese boss who is set to commission a £30 million bid for him.

It was additionally added that De Vrij himself dreams of playing in the English Premier League and there are possibilities that this move could well come to fruition in the summer transfer window.
