Cameroon Defender Targets More Goals At Liverpool

Liverpool defender Joel Matip is targeting more goals at the club as he continues to earn the trust of his manager Jurgen Klopp.

Cameroonian international Matip has been in good form for Liverpool since he returned to the team in January.

The former Schalke 04 player returned from injury at the start of the year to form a potent centre back partnership with Dutch international Virgil Van Dijk.

Joel Matip talked about his desire to score more goals for the Reds in a chat with the club’s official website.

He has scored just three goals since he joined the club from German Bundesliga club Schalke 04 three years ago.

Matip also told the official website of Liverpool that he has earned the trust of manager Jurgen Klopp as a ball playing central defender and he’s ready to take more risks while playing the ball out of the back which is the style adopted by the aforementioned Klopp at Liverpool.

With Joel Matip and Virgil Van Dijk at the centre of the Liverpool defence, the Reds have the best defensive record in the Premier League with just 20 goals conceded this season after 35 league games.

Liverpool have also kept 19 clean sheets since the start of the season in August.
