How Arsene Wenger ended my Real Madrid career, legend

Arsenal legend Robert Pires said he would have had a football career at Real Madrid but it failed to happen because of former manager, Arsene Wenger.

Pires joined Arsenal from Marseille 18 years ago admitted to have been pictured to have been wearing a Real Madrid shirt before meeting the Frenchman.

He said a call he made to Wenger two days after some journalist took a picture of him amidst interest from Madrid was all that convinced him to England.

Although, he disclosed that his decision to snub Madrid was an uncomfortable one for those around him at that time but he ended up not regretting his decision.

He praised the quality of the French manager, adding that he was lucky to have played under him, winning four trophies and reached a Champions League final.

Pires had established himself in the heart of the Arsenal fans and will forever be forgotten before his move to Spain with Villarreal.

Arsenal star could leave over limited playing chances in a last minute transfer move

Obviously, one of his bad moment with Arsenal was his inability to win the Champions League especially after coming close by playing in the final against Barcelona in 2006.

However, Wenger has also left the club after a 22-year reign and has been replaced by Unai Emery.
