Goals rain in match day one of Nigeria’s Aiteo Cup

There were rains of goals in the matchday one of the Nigeria’s Aiteo FA Cup in three centres in the country on Monday.

A total of 15 goals were scored in six games with the Nigerian Professional Football League, NPFL clubs beating off competition from smaller teams except for Kogi United, a second tire side, levelling up with a league side, Nasarawa United in the goalless encounter.

Abia Warriors were defeated by struggling Kwara United in the six goals thriller by 5-1 on Monday. All thanks to striker Segun Alebiosu netting a brace in teh encounter.

Former NPFL champions, Kano pillars came from behind to have the day against Rivers United in the game that ended 3-2.

A brace from veteran Rabiu Ali and another strike by Junior Lokosa were enough to hand the North West side a win.

Akwa United also defeated Wikki Tourists by a lone goal with Enugu Rangers defeating El-Kanemi by 2-1.

With some fixtures already going down on Tuesday evening, leaders of each group are expected to compete against each other to produce the last four teams that will gun for the N25m cash gift.

Akwa United are defending champions of the competition after defeating Niger Tornadoes in the 3-2 penalty win.
