Champions League: Liverpool Close In On Last Four Berth After Porto Win

Merseyside giants Liverpool have moved closer to the last four of the Champions League after their straightforward victory over Portuguese champions FC Porto in what was the first leg of their quarterfinal tie.

Liverpool beat the Portuguese team 2-0 to take charge of their Champions League last eight tie.

The Reds took an early lead in the fifth minute through the in-form Naby Keita before Roberto Firmino added a second goal on 26 minutes.

Naby Keita has now scored two goals in his last two games for Liverpool despite going scoreless since his move to the club at the start of the season.

The Guinean international star scored his first goal for Liverpool at the weekend as the Reds came from a goal down to beat Southampton away from home and secure top spot in the Premier League in the process.

Liverpool scored the two goals against FC Porto in the first half to edge closer to the semifinals at the expense of the Portuguese team.

Their second leg clash is billed for Portugal next week Wednesday.

The target for the Reds is to go one better than last season when they were beaten at then finals via a 3-1 defeat to Real Madrid in their final meeting last summer.
