Surprise! Arsenal lead race to snatch Chelsea £35million transfer target

According to reports, Not London giants Arsenal have emerged as a contender to secure the move of unhappy AC Milan star Leonardo Bonucci, alongside Premier League Champions Chelsea and table-topping Manchester City.

Don Balon reported Real Madrid’s interest in the defender, but claim the Italian will be too expensive for them, while also listing Arsenal as contenders for his services for the first time.

He has been one of the World’s best centre-backs in recent years and would be a major statement signing by Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger if he could make it happen.

France international defender Laurent Koscielny, Spaniard Nacho Monreal and German Shkodran Mustafi performed below standard in Friday night’s 3-3 draw with Merseyside giants Liverpool, and it shows clearly that signings are required at the back.

Germany international Per Mertesacker will also be hanging his boots at the end of the campaign, leaving the French tactician short of depth and quality options at the back.

Recently, Calciomercato linked the Blues and the citizens as the main sides pursuing Bonucci, who has become unhappy at the Serie A club following a poor start to life at the San Siro.

The central defender was a surprise summer signing from Serie A champions Juventus during the summer, but the defender hasn’t really lived up to expectations so far and could move.
