Arsenal join league leaders in race to sign in-form star player

According to reports, Arsenal and table toppers Manchester City are both keen on the transfer of Burnley star James Tarkowski after his brilliant form in the English Premier League this term.

Tarkowski, 25, has been a key figure as Sean Dyche’s team have shockingly found themselves in the 6th position on the log, and that’s got top teams taking notice.

As per the Times, the Gunners and the Citizen’s are both looking at the defender but would possibly move for him in June as they both attempt to reinforce at the back.

The North Londoners look in need of strengthening their backline after some poor form from Germany international defender Shkodran Mustafi this term, while his compatriot Per Mertesacker is due to hang his boot at the conclusion of the season.

Per is set to take over a coaching role at the club next season, leaving the North London club in need of defensive reinforcement.

The back line looks to be a top priority for both teams, however, with top publication, the Times also recently connecting them with a move for Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk.

The centre-half has spent most of his playing career so far in the lower division but now seems fully established in the Premier League with FC Burnley.
