Deal On: Benfica Eyeing Free Transfer Move For Liverpool Defender

Portuguese giants Benfica want to sign Liverpool defender Alberto Moreno on a free transfer this summer according to Portuguese newspaper A Bola.

Spanish left-back Moreno has few months left on his contract at Liverpool and he’s not expected to be offered a contract extension when it expires this summer.

The former Sevilla defender has been a fringe player at Liverpool for the better part of the last two seasons due to the form of Andy Robertson.

Scottish national team skipper Robertson has grown to become the best left-sided defender in the Premier League since his move to Liverpool from English Championship club Hull City at the summer of 2017 for just £8m and his form has relegated Alberto Moreno to a bench warmer.

Andy Robertson has provided 11 assists for Liverpool in the Premier League this season to further highlight his importance to his title-chasing team.

Moreno has played just one league game this season and that was the 4-1 win over Welsh side Cardiff City earlier in the season.

Apart from Portuguese league leaders Benfica, Alberto Moreno has also been linked with other major European sides like Spanish champions Barcelona and North London giants Arsenal.

For now, his future is unresolved but his five-year stay at Liverpool will end this summer.
