United concluding talks for £45m-rated defender

Emerging reports indicate that Manchester United are already concluding talks with Atletico Madrid for star defender Jose Gimenez in a bid to confirm his signature in the winter transfer window which reopens in coming weeks.

High-level defenders are believed to be a top priority of Man United manager Jose Mourinho with Eric Bailly and Phil Jones all seeking to find their way out of the Stamford Bridge.

The Portuguese boss has insistent that the lack of defenders has been a major reason for why his side have failed to win a number of games as he hopes the club can hand him a reasonable amount of funds to be able to compete in the winter transfer market for better players.

According to reports, the former Chelsea boss will do all it takes to have the signature of Jose Gimenez in the coming weeks when the winter transfer window finally reopens.

Jose Gimenez has been impressive for his side and that has earned him a release clause of about £50 million with his contract expected to expire in 2023.

However, there are fears that Mourinho might not be handed funds to do business in the winter transfer window as the management seem to have been fed up with the performances under his reign.
