Manchester City assistant coach, Mikel Arteta has stated that he has no regret missing out on the opportunity to replace former Arsenal Manager, Arsene Wenger at the Emirates Stadium.
It would be recalled that the former Everton, Arsenal midfielder was mentioned as a replacement for the Frenchman and was reported to have indicated interest by attending an interview for the job.
Many had concluded that the odds favoured the Spaniard before Unai Emery’s name was mentioned and handed the job almost immediately.
However, Arteta explained that although he wanted leave as Pep Guardiola’s replacement to take on the job but he has not regret that it did not work out.
According to him, he is a happy man working under the former Barcelona, Bayern Munich manager.
The Spaniard had to make a statement on this for the first time because he stood in for Guardiola in Tuesday’s pre-match press conference ahead of Champions League encounter against Lyon.
Guardiola will be absent from the technical area as he is expected to serve a touchline ban for the game.
Arteta admitted to have come close to picking the job but noted that football can be unpredictable and his own case is not new.
