Chelsea man says Antonio Conte is paying for mistakes of Michael Emenalo in the transfer market

Under-fire Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is paying heavily for the mistakes former technical director of the team Michael Emenalo made last summer transfer window, says Ray Wilkins.

Under-fire manager

The Chelsea boss is thought to be close to being sacked following successive losses against AFC Bournemouth and Watford last night, with his team conceding a disappointing seven goals over the two matches.

The Premier League champions are missing a couple of key figures through injury but they absolutely outplayed by the Hornets as they lost 4-1 at Vicarage Road on Monday.

Fumbling Champions

The former England international described Chelsea’s performance as ‘abysmal’ but he feels Antonio Conte’s problems are not of the Italian’s making.

Rumour over Antonio Conte’s future has lingered ever since the summer transfer window, with reports suggesting he was unhappy with the side’s transfer activity and frustrated he was not involved more about their new players.

Poor summer activities

Diego Costa and Nemanja Matic were both key figures of Antonio Conte’s English Premier League title-winning side, and both offloaded in the summer transfer window.

Both stars were replaced by Alvaro Morata and Tiemoue Bakayoko, who has since struggled to settle at the West London club and was red-carded just 30 minutes into the loss to Watford on Monday night.
