Jerome Boateng

Manchester United have been told they can sign Jerome Boateng from Bayern Munich, according to reports.

The German defender endured a dismal summer at the just concluded World Cup in Russia as the Die Mannschaft failed to progress from the group stage of the competition.

Boateng who once played in the Premier League with Manchester City, could be back in the league with their city rivals, Manchester United, if they are ready to stump up to £50million for the defender, according to reports in the Daily Mail.

The veteran centre-back has won several trophies at the club and international level, but wants a new challenge since the arrival of young defenders at the Allianz Arena.

What remains to be known is whether Manchester United will be ready to buy Boateng for £50million after getting priced out of transfer deals for Toby Alderweireld and Harry Maguire by their respective clubs.

It is understood that United could offer Anthony Martial in a potential deal for Boateng, but Bayern Munich are believed to be keen on getting cash for their man.

Jose Mourinho is keen to add more defensive options to his side before the end of the summer window, with Yerry Mina said to be nearing a move to the Old Trafford.
